People who hide the fact they smoke from others are labeled closet smokers. They’re embarrassed by it, they’re ashamed of it, and they don’t want anyone to know.

But what good does that serve them? What’s the point?
Do they really think they’re fooling anyone? How long can they go before someone finds out?
There were occasions when I was one of them. If I had just quit and announced it to the world, and then suddenly relapsed, I had no choice other to smoke behind closed doors.
I was afraid of the embarrassment that would arrive if I told others.
Though, after a short while, I gave up and smoked around everyone, proclaiming I was simply not ready to quit just yet.
If you’re a parent, or a spouse, and you’re trying to hide your smoking from your family or friends, what is that really saying about you?
Are you lying to everyone? Do you want to be considered a liar? What kind of role model do you make for your children?
These are all questions you should be asking yourself if your smoking is hidden from the world.
What is there to gain?
There is nothing to gain besides lung cancer and death. That’s all you have to look forward to.
Smokers can’t smell themselves, because tobacco has paralyzed their senses. But non-smokers can smell everything just fine.
With that in mind, they can smell YOU! It doesn’t matter if you just washed your hands, or you just popped a piece of gum in your mouth.
They can still smell it.
It lingers in your clothes and in your hair. Are you going to take a shower after every cigarette? Because that’s what you’ll have to do in order to have nobody smell anything on you.
You have the time for that?

You’ll have to put clean clothes on after every cigarette, too. It’s simply unrealistic.
Closet smokers just need to come out, announce that they have slipped up, and then go from there. That way, they’ll have everyone’s support.
If you lie about it and keep it hidden from others, you’ll have no support in the end and no one will help you.
If you come out clean, friends and family will support you. You can’t keep everything a secret for life.
I don’t believe they want to hide their habit forever. If they want to hide it so bad, then that must mean they feel ashamed about it.
If you’re ashamed about something, then you don’t feel it’s right. If you don’t feel it’s right, then you eventually will want to quit.
That’s why it’s better to confess, bring it out in the open, and then work collectively as a group.
The worst thing you can do is be a liar all your life. That is not going to be of any benefit to you in the future, and will only hurt your friends and family.
It’s going to lead to embarrassment and ridicule, and rightfully so.
