Are American Spirit cigarettes safer than regular brand names? Is there such a thing as a “safe” cigarette?
Why are they so popular with young people? Does smoking American Spirits mean you won’t get lung cancer? What about other health issues?

Let’s derail some of these myths, because I feel that some people really do think they are smoking a healthier cigarette, and that is doesn’t hurt them as much as other name brands.
That thinking is incorrect, and in the long run, it’s deadly.
All of them involve inhaling smoke, and that means there is carbon monoxide production.
Whenever there is smoke involved, whether it be a campfire, the wood-burning stove, or a cigarette, when a fuel (wood, tobacco, etc.) is lit, it produces carbon monoxide.
In high quantities, it is highly toxic to humans.
This is why people die in houses that catch on fire. They don’t die from the flames, they die because they inhaled too much carbon monoxide.
It poisoned them.

Also, since you are inhaling smoke, you are damaging your lungs. Your body needs oxygen to survive, and smoking depletes your oxygen intake.
Did you know that 90% of the smoke you inhale does NOT get exhaled?
That’s right!
Now imagine having 20+ a day (or more) and you can see how damaging they really are.
American Spirit tobacco is no different.
It still creates smoke that stays inside your lungs.
Smoking, in any form, is harmful to you.
Over time, your breathing will get worse, and you won’t be able to enjoy physical activity like you used to.
You may even end up on an oxygen tank, gasping for air.
There are many health issues that can happen to you besides getting lung cancer.
Don’t be fooled into thinking you won’t get them. It’s simply not true.

Why do so many young people buy them?
I find that a lot of young, “alternative” people enjoy these types.
The hipster crowd, the hippie crowd, the punk crowd, the vegan crowd, etc. All those sub-cultures of society are usually the ones who buy them.
They think it makes them more health conscious.
Why?
There are no additives.
While regular name brand cigarettes contain 599 added chemicals, some of which are toxic to humans, this type contains zero added chemicals.
They are marketed as “all natural” and even “organic.”
Organic sounds safer on paper, but it’s all relative.
In this instance, just because you aren’t inhaling all those nasty chemicals (which is good) doesn’t mean you are leading a better life, or that you are smarter than the person who buys the name brands.

It says so right on the box itself. Why people still don’t believe this is beyond me.
When the company itself specifically states that their product is NOT safer than name brands, that’s all you need to know.
The truth is right on the label.
Go see for yourself if you don’t believe me.

You can still get bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma.
In terms of lung cancer, yes you can still get it, because the combustion, the burning sensation in your throat and lungs, is what causes it.
Ever read that burnt food, mainly due to open flame grills, can cause cancer?
It’s the same theory for any types of cigarettes.
Now, not everyone gets cancer, and not everyone will get emphysema, either.
The good thing about American Spirits is avoiding all those additives. That should be obvious.
But they are also more expensive. Expect to pay at least a dollar or more than usual.
Is it worth it?

In my opinion, no, it’s not. It’s much more wise and healthy to switch to vaping instead of American Spirits.
With smoking, you still have the shame, the filthy habit, the smell, the inconvenience, and the nuisance towards others.
Just quit smoking and escape all the problems that smoking leads to.
You’ll be so much happier if you do. I promise.
I realize this is a very old thread, but I feel compelled to comment. I am trying to quit; I smoke menthol AS, about 5-6 a day, probably around 16 years.. I was an on and off smoker 10 years prior to that, smoked Newports. Having successfully quit twice in my life (first time 10 years, second time about a year, then intentionally began smoking again), I’ve found it almost impossible to quit AS & did some research into why.. American Spirit adds freebase nicotine to their cigarettes (google it). These cigs have way more nicotine than any other brand, which makes it MUCH harder to quit! So I do not recommend “stepping down” to AS if you are trying to quit.
I am ordering micronutrients and supplements that should help, and will use nicotine lozenges and possibly the spray, although only for emergencies because I hear that, too, is highly addictive and hard to quit.
Nicotine screws with brain chemicals.. dopamine, norepinephrine, seratonin, etc. and when you have become seriously addicted, you can sink into a severe depression and feel extremely sad and ADHD for a long time when you quit, because your brain neuro chemistry no longer functions. The nicotine was helping you feel good, motivated, focused, organized, etc. It takes time for the brain to function normally without the nicotine.. and if you were prone to depression & ADHD before starting cigs.. the reason you liked smoking is you were medicating yourself with nicotine (as opposed to pharmaceutical drugs for these issues). Every time I try to quit AS I become totally unmotivated, ADD, sad, disorganized, etc. and have to light up again. It sucks. I’m hoping these micronutrients and other things will make the difference this time.
I just got my hands on a Weed Vaporizer and it’s the best experience I ever had

For full disclosure I’m a former smoker having bought and smoked Marlboros camels Winston’s and towards the end of American Spirit cigarettes. Your argument is flawed because it’s based on the fact that cigarettes as a concept, this is what you’re doing you’re stating a concept the category of the mind, and the associated main ingredient tobacco are your two Targets that you are blaming for all of the health conditions that come from using this product. Now there is an argument argument to be made that inflammation and carbon monoxide inhalation contribute to health effects and possibly some of these diseases but it’s pretty obvious that most of the hundreds of chemicals being used as well as some of the irradiated tobacco such as Winston-Salem used and continues to use which is literally shunting irradiated material into people’s lungs everyday are the main reasons why people are developing malignant mutagenic cancerous growths as well as the inflammation of the carbon monoxide. That here’s an example where we can look at history which none of the proponents of these positions such as you will ever do, to completely destroy this argument. Where are you waves and waves of rampant cancer from tobacco use in the past?
I don’t care what your argument is, cuz cigarettes of any kind are bad for you, and lung disease and stroke and heart attack will kill you way faster than cancer will. That’s why it doesn’t matter what you smoke. But I’ve quit for over 5 years, so you’re preaching to the choir anyways.
For me, vaping was costly and complicated; propylene glycol was irritating and only VG would do.
Analogs, I loved Camel Crush. But a collapsed nerve in my low back would be crippling me one pack in…
So my argument for the organic American Spirit aside from the name and totem is its harmful to your lungs..
So quit.
American spirit don’t have added sugar. Most of the heavy withdrawals are from sugar added to other cigs. The tobacco plant has some natural sugars but not added like others. Some say there is as much as half a teaspoon of sugar in one Marlboro cig. “AS” are good to step down before quitting u don’t get the sugar withdrawal..
I used to smoke different brands of cigarettes, like Newports, Capris, Kool, and Basics. I would always keep a cold, get sick during the fall, and even felt light-headed especially when I smoked Newports. Now I have been smoking American Spirits for over 8 years now and let me tell you, I have not experienced any of these since. They are better.
Im a physician, 20 years.
And let me tell you, smoking AS are 100% BETTER then other name brands. Its not safe, but SAFER.
You people act like the amonia and other chemicals mean nothing.
Come back when you have a degree and stop spewing nonsense based on feelings.
Its not safe, but its safer.
Oh and vapes cause popcorn lung.
It astounds me the idiots i see here spewing things they have no idea about.
Why do you think peoplw who inhale cigars dont get cancer as often? Less additives.
Get a TRUE education on the subject and MAYBE. Other than gullible people will listen to you. So angry at this “amature doctor” shit.
you sound pressed. You also sound like you’re making excuses. You seem to think everyone and their mother revolve around the word “cancer.” Have you ever heard of lung disease, heart disease, emphysema, stroke, heart attack, or COPD? Does smoking American Spirits prevent any of that? Get a degree and comeback with an educated answer.
Also, quickly throwing in the “vapes cause popcorn lung” refutes any argument you have any further, because it shows how UNEDUCATED you really are. Do some research. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.
I agree. M.D. means “Me Doctor” and Only Medical Doctors know what they’re talking about. Bullshit. Americans especially still look at Doctors as the next thing to gods.
I was a USAF SAC (Strategic Air Command) Medic for 6 years. Then a USN 2nd Class Pharmacist’s Mate for 4.5 years. Then a Physician Assistant and Registered Nurse. I have 3 degrees. BFD, right?
In my case I’ve been smoking for over 50 years and only now that I have COPD am I quitting at the age of 68. I have smoked everything from pot to Al Capone miniature cigars.
American Spirits are “not as bad” because they don’t have 599 additives. But they will kill you anyway.
The only “Safe” cigarette is the one you don’t light.
Period. Doctor Know it all is FOS. My medical abbreviation for Full of Shit. The U.S., in a 1998 world wide study, ranked 37 in cost vs care.
Mexico ranked much higher (better) and countries as far away as Zimbabwe ranked higher than the U.S.
Pathetic! So-called ‘doctors’ in the U.S. have gotten worse and worse by the year. You want to get into Med school? Better have a parent or other close relation who’s a M.D.
They are only in it for the money. Quit smoking no matter how hard it is. Better yet, Don’t Start!
‘Doc’ Terracino
I am confused by “Dr. Hatfield”. How can a physician of your caliber, high intelligence, and level of experience have so many grammatical errors? You started a sentence with the word “And”. You use terms such as “you people”. You misspell ammonia (a word all physicians I know can spell with efficiency). You did not capitalize the word I, which is something I taught my children back when they were 5.
Be mindful of such things that make you appear the larger idiot. It is important when you are trying to convince others you are truly a physician and not just some random idiot with feelings and nothing solid to back up your words.
I’ve been smoking American Spirits for about 4 years. Im almost 33 in septemeber and I started smoking the very day I turned 18. Pay attention to my story….because up until I started AMERICAN SPIRITS (Yellow pack), I smoked a pack or more a day.
The first pack I ever bought was camel lights. I would switch on and off from those to Marlboro lights. I would get very sick with bronchitis, sinus infections, or pneumonia, etc…. (and miss Work) every season change from the time I started smoking. I could honestly smell AND TASTE the chemicals. When I was that sick, I obviously couldn’t physically smoke… so I would go an entire week without smoking even a puff. Just one second after I was “all better” I would light one up and be back at it. Chain smoker even. Making up for lost times.
So let’s fast forward to 2014 when I smoked my first American spirit. I remember, instantaneously these were my new brand of choice. I could and would literally go longer between each cigarette, not even craving one 20 min later. Nor would I smoke a pack per day. It was more like 3 packs per week. The smell of the smoke was even different. It didn’t smell as dirty.. I tell you what though…. about 3 days after I started the AS, I was coughing up black, coughing so bad my throat would hurt, but I new it wasn’t from those AS. IT WAS FROM the added chemicals in the Camels and Marlboros.
When I say, like clockwork, I was sick every season change and maybe a few colds in between, from the camels and Marlboros, I mean it.
So in the last 4 years, I’ve gotten bronchitis once, no sinus infections, a few light colds, and haven’t missed any work.
Good for me, right?! Wrong!
It’s still tobacco, it’s still a drug, it still smells like crap, and it still sticks to my clothes, my car smells like an ash tray, etc… the worst part is how invasive it is to other people. Including my child. I don’t smoke in the house, ever… and I only smoke in my car when he isn’t in it. The car still wreaks.
Today, about two hours ago, I smoked the last cig in my pack. I just ate breakfast and will have to inconveniently get out of the house and drive to the gas station for another pack.
I feel healthier with the American Spirits…. not a good healthier, but just not as toxic feeling… the smell is what is going to cause me to quit. Honestly. The smell on my hands, and face. It’s gross and dirty. My son loves to cuddle with me and here I am rubbing my stinky smell all over him. He does NOT deserve that!!!!!
He tells me all the time I need to quit. He’s 7 now. If I quit maybe he’ll remember how proud of me he is, when he’s 18 and legally able to buy his own first pack. I need to set this positive example for him.
Thanks for reading. I have a strong desire at this moment to quit smoking.
Brother you just wrote my life story to the T
Funny I love the smell, my friend smokes then she moved away. I started smoking an vape cbd then tried a omg I love the smell an taste I just hold it in my mouth an blow out ( also planning on using a pipe lol)
I originally wrote about the American Spirit Cigs and want you all to know I am going on 10 months and have not gone back. I have had no problems-don’t miss it one bit. I have gained weight but can deal with that. I am not saying it will work for everyone but it did for me.
Vaping must depend on the person. When I tried to quit with vaping, not only did it feel pointless but my throat and chest hurt so bad. They suggested trying a different coil and different levels (which I did) and nothing helped. I’m on day 6 of no cigarettes currently. I just use the patch and my anxiety medication just happens to double as a smoking cessation aid. I found this article because I got a coupon in the mail for these cigarettes and when I saw that it was just tobacco and water I thought, “Well, if I can’t resist a craving it’s better then Marlboro” and wanted to research it a little. Yes, their label states that they are not any healthier then other cigarettes. However, I would argue the use of the term healthier. It can’t be disputed that zero chemicals is healthier then 500 some chemicals. Will it still cause problems? Yes, your science is sound on that point. Is it, by definition of the term, healthier? Yes, it is. However, I still think quitting with aids such as the nicotine patch (which is free so the doctor isn’t getting any profit from telling you to use them) is the best way to go. Maybe you have a different vaper then I did, but the coil inside of those heats up in order to create the vape so you are still essentially inhaling smoke. It’s just made up of water. Like I said, everyone is clearly different but when I tried to quit with vaping, I failed because it made my chest and throat hurt so bad and I didn’t get anything out of it. I’ve lasted a lot longer using the patch. Sure, if you follow the program it takes 12 weeks to get to the point where you aren’t getting any nicotine, but the slower the better. If you enjoy vaping, that’s great. If you enjoy smoking cigarettes that only have tobacco and water as ingredients, that’s great too. In the end, the healthiest thing is to not be using either of them.
Hi just read all the comments and I used cigarettes to roll joints then changed to American spirit tobacco to roll and found i just did not enjoy smoking anymore changed to vape cannabis oil and will give up completely soon thanks for helping
Cannabis oil is actually healthy for us and prevents diseases!!!! Ayyyy:) I’m a natural medicine researcher and also a nutritionist 🙂
Everything we eat and drink are full of chemicals, lotions we use are full of toxins that are absorbed through the skin! I decided to try American Spirits and I don’t get that “ cig” lightheaded feeling with these. Are they better for you? Inhaling anything is bad but until I’m ready to quit, I will smoke these, plus their so expensive, you won’t buy as many.
i HAVE BEEN SMOKING AMERICAN SPIRITS FOR A WEEK NOW AND i CAN TELL A DIFFERENCE. I HAVE HEADACHES AND FEEL SLUGGISH. I FEEL LIKE I AM WITHDRAWING FROM THE CHEMICALS FROM MARLBOROS. I COUGH UP SO MUCH FROM MY LUNGS NOW AND IT FEELS GOOD TO GET IT OUT. I WENT FROM OVER A PACK A DAY MARLBOROS TO A PACK EVERY 3 DAYS OR MORE OF AMERICAN SPIRITS. I AM JUST TRYING TO STOP ALTOGETHER. THANKS FOR ALL THE POSTS ON AMERICAN SPIRITS AND ALL OTHER CIGS AS WELL.
Also, as another way to look at this, consider this simple fact: Smoking SPINACH carries roughly the same health danger as smoking tobacco leaf. There is nothing particular special about tobacco that makes it any more carcinogenic than smoking any other leafy plant. The nicotine content, of course, makes tobacco highly addictive, but that’s different from the question of the toxic dangers of its smoke.
And yet if someone sold “spinach cigarettes” that combined dried spinach leaves with hundreds of toxic chemical additives into a cigarette, it would seem downright retarded to say that “spinach causes cancer.” And yet that’s the same language used with tobacco right now. How often have you heard the phrase “tobacco causes cancer?” Again, if we are to approach this issue with intellectual honesty, we need to differentiate between the natural tobacco plant and the highly processed manufactured cigarettes packed with toxic chemicals.
I am 73 years old. I smoked regular cigarettes until 2009 then switched to American Spirits. I could only smoke 1/2 cigarette at a time so cut down to 1/2 pack. Still lit up 16-20 times a day. In June I got a cold and had a coughing fit when I lit up so stopped. I have not had a cigarette since and don’t want to. I had absolutely no withdrawal. There is certainly a difference between American Spirits and regular cigarettes.
Don’t know what it is but I have said many times over the years I smoked them that I thought they would be easy to quit from and they sure were.
Same here, I started back up due to life stressors getting the better of me and a friend recommended American spirits. Now I have a “take it OR leave it” attitude towards cigs now. I no longer get the CRAVINGS, but I do still light up when I’m wanting to Relax a bit.
I totally agree.
I recently read that there is a chemical additive in cigarettes that functions to quickly deliver nicotine to the brain. American Spirit have no additives. I’ve been smoking them for over a month and went through withdrawal symptoms for the first 2 weeks – hoping to quit permanently. I think the delivery system explains why so many smokers find American Spirit a helpful step in the quitting process.
I do think as a brand it’s a good tool to step down before quitting. I feel like i was more addicted to the chemicals in Pall Mall’s than the tobacco. I notice a big difference between Pall Mall’s and American Spirit’s. I don’t feel as satisfied with them as I did Pall Mall’s so that leads me to think they were more satisfying because of the added chemicals. Going from tobacco plus 599 other chemicals to just tobacco is a good step down. The ultimate goal should always be to quit, and if we fail try, try, try again.
I have to disagree with you. People who are trying to quit should step down to vaping before quitting nicotine all together. Vaping is just way better for your lungs than smoking is. It’s the nicotine you’re after. You can get it a much safer way than smoking American Spirits.
Popcorn lung is the side effect of vaping… so both are bad for you.
That is only applicable if you are vaping custard flavors of vapor, and most reputable businesses are aware of this and have taken them off the market. As a vaper, you should be buying from a reputable vendor anyways. So this is easily avoided.
The CHEMICAL in vape juice that gives you “popcorn lung” is one of the 599 added chemicals in CIGARETTES.
I do not believe the ingredients in vape liquid is any safer for your lungs and nor is there evidence proving it. E-liquid just has other and some of the same ingredients in it to clog your lungs Quitting smoking period is the only way… There is no safe smoking…
Have you actually ever vaped before, or are you judging it based on what you read? Because if have vaped before, you would clearly tell the difference in your lungs between inhaling smoke and inhaling vapor. Neither is good for you, obviously, but vaping feels WAAAAAY better on your lungs than constantly inhaling smoke 20 or 30 times a day. Come on now.
I have vaped for over a year and my lungs went from ok to feeling like shit. And that feeling didn’t go away till I switched back to cigarettes. In other words, vaping is not an answer, only quiting is but it’s so hard. If the natural tobacco cigarettes help you decrease or even quit, they are the better cigarettes by far!
So does hookah though right
Vaping is horrible for your lungs as the Doctor has told me to smoke less but DO NOT start to vape. It causes pockets in the lungs and there has not been enough tests ran on these. You are uninformed.
A lot of vaping actually has been proven to leave traces of aluminum in the lungs due to the metal heating sorry but I think you should be aware of this fact also thank you
Still a million times better than smoking.
I’ve tried vaping with Blu for a while, and I couldn’t believe how bad my throat and lungs felt. I could instantly tell that these were terrible for you . I don’t need a report from a doctor or scientist to know what’s bad and what’s good because the proof was in my throat and lungs . There hasn’t been enough time for us to find out how bad they are. A simple comparison is getting a tan a long time ago and wearing sunscreen 30 now. Hmm. BPA in Plastics that we’ve been using for decades. Red dye in food was banned a long time ago because of its dangerous properties. Let me throw this one out there… The farm-raised salmon we now all eat because we think it’s healthy (and comparatively inexpensive) has properties that wild salmon do not have that can cause harm to your eyesight. I read the report a while ago and that’s one thing I remember but there are more. I developed thyroid cancer ( 7 tumors) as a result of way too many dental X-rays without a thyroid shield. Now I’m saying way too many like over a hundred. Actually there are so many things that we are exposed to repeatedly on a daily basis that are so bad for you that the public doesn’t readily know about. This has given me cause to launch a Blog. It will be called “This Is What I Know” and will be a result of my research wrapped up in one place. Back to the meat and potatoes of it all, vaping is harmful. I had quit smoking for 22 years. I was then thrust into a work environment where I had to be around smokers indoors. The nicotine eventually seeped into my system and I was hooked again. I quit for 2 years about 4 years ago. I did it by mustering up every ounce of determination that I wasn’t going to be held a Slave. Now, because I’m beginning to care about myself again that road is once again in front of me. Best of luck to everyone who wants to be cigarette free.
You can do anything you want to if you want it badly enough.
I disagree. To state that smoking a cigarette without the 599 additives is just as bad as smoking a cigarette that contains the additives is ridiculous. I agree that all smoking can cause cancer and other serious illnesses. I am not advocating smoking. But let’s face it, if you are going to smoke, you are better off smoking a cigarette without the 599 additives. Some of these additives are toxic to humans. Being honest does not make you a smoking advocate.
THANK YOU!! I’m trying to quit, so I’m definitely not advocating smoking either. I was thinking, isn’t that the definition of better? You can have one without the chemicals…or one with the chemicals… The cigarette without the chemicals is definitely better. Most assuredly in no way, shape, or form “good for you”, but between the 2, it’s definitely better! ♀️♀️
Why are people making this forum into a debatable issue again? There is nothing debatable. Both are not good, one is worse than other. Simple stuff. No examples required.
THE ARTICLE ITSELF IS STUPID. THE QUESTION WAS: IS AMERICAN SPIRITS HEALTHIER THAN REGULAR BRANDS? You say yourself it has 599 less chemicals in it. Yet you go on to say that they are the same as other name BRANDS. Tell me how can you have 599 less chemicals in it and not be HEALTHIER?
You also say that smoking anything is dangerous to your health so how does smoking 599 added things not add up to being worse then not smoking those 599 chemicals? Your article is flawed, and you completely contradict yourself. There’s no argument that cigarettes are unhealthy but you specifically ask the question is American Spirit cigarettes SAFER than other cigarettes, not whether they are completely safe or not.
Take a college English 101 class and you can see why this article is misleading and just a way to say cigarettes are dangerous without answering the question. People read the article to find out. Try actually doing your homework before putting out an article that has no purpose other than to restate known facts and add personal opinion despite that you contradict yourself in your own ARTICLE and give a wrong answer based on your own evidence.
Smoking anything is dangerous so of course adding 599 more chemicals then smoking them is going to be worse than not smoking them. The question is how dangerous are those 599 chemicals and how much WORSE would it be if let’s say you removed the tobacco and only smoked the 599 chemicals you say that they would have no negative impact on our health. But at the same time you say smoking anything is DANGEROUS. Can you see where you discredit yourself and make your whole ARTICLE RIDICULOUS?
First of all it took me 15 minutes to correct your horrible grammar, and you tell ME to take an English 101 class?
Go on believing that American Spirits are better for you than Camels or Marlboro’s. That’s exactly what they want you to believe. Is the stroke you’re eventually going to have be a “less severe” stroke because you smoke American Spirits? Is the heart attack you’ll have be “less severe” also?
Crap is crap. You add more crap to the existing crap, or you take away from the existing crap. You’re still left with crap. It’s killing you regardless.
Finally, go read the label. It specifically says they are not safer than name brand cigarettes.
I think the point of the original comment is that, yes, they are objectively better simply because there is less additives, but as the comment also pointed out, the matter is how much better. And the label is a disclaimer, nothing more.
Everyone has an opinion. the article is good and concise, and it’s free information too. Thank’s for the Informational article. At the end of the day, people will still do what they want, so no point wasting time validating their comments. We all self destruct in our own ways I guess.
Sorry this like saying a hamburger is just as bad as a 4 patty with 5 cheese slice an bacon . No lol both bad but the 4 patty an cheese an bacon burger is wrost
If they claim it’s natural and organic can the fire retardant in the paper be natural? You would think it would have to be all natural though that doesn’t always mean a lot.
American Spirits are quite simply the most evil brand of cigarettes in America. What makes them so evil is they try to sell themselves as not being as evil as any other brand.
Respectfully Disagree. We are all adults and we can see the world not as black and white but in shades of grey.
Can we agree that there is a difference between smoking a plant and smoking a plant with ammonia added to it? Why don’t pot heads develop lung cancer like cigarette smokers? Is it (maybe) because they are not smoking ammonia and 600 other chemicals added by scientists to make you smoke more and get more addicted?
I submit that only a fool would ingest smoke and think it was anything but bad for you. That said, vices are pleasureable. Some thingss are less harmful than other things. Cigarettes without ammonia (may be) less harmful than cigarettes with ammonia.
I think you’re forgetting that cancer is not the only disease you can get from smoking. In fact, I would go as far to say it’s the one least likely occurring. There are a plethora of degenerative diseases caused by inhaling smoke: COPD, emphysema, asthma, stroke, heart attacks, etc.
All of those things you can get by smoking American Spirits, and they are much more of an immediate concern than cancer is.
Besides, just because you feel your vice is pleasureable today does not mean you will always feel that way. Eventually the physical side effects will catch up to you.
All of these you can also get by smoking pot, along with massive impairs to the brain and other long term side effects. Smoke is smoke. Smoking gun powder and all the other nasty things in normal smokes are much worse. Cancers derive on genes; some people are much more susceptible to it than others. The healthiest people die all the time from things they are just prone to or destined to get. Live life, be happy, and do what you want. We all die.
Well it’s a good thing that marijuana edibles have been invented. Then you can have the pleasure without the smoke and side effects.
I don’t agree with what you’re implying in your message. You’re basically saying “who cares, we all die, live like there’s no tomorrow.” I disagree with that. I was not happy smoking, and I’m sure 99% of the people posting on this “quit smoking website” aren’t happy, either. Otherwise, why are you here?
Plus, I want to live to be 100 years old. We only get one life, and I’m not going to cut it short because I chose to smoke something that made me miserable and unhappy.
If smoking makes you happy that’s fine, but don’t assume it always will. It will catch up to you eventually.
Vaping is going to be a complete nightmare once studies have been completely done. The doctors are dead set against vaping, just as much or more than smoking. My doctor asked me to please not vape, but to slow down on the cigarettes until I can quit and that’s exactly what I did. American Spirits helped me quit smoking so I cannot complaint about them or say they are worse. They are better if you truly want to quit. Anyone thinking of vaping, DON’T…STAY AWAY FROM IT!
I would never advise listening to your doctor regarding this issue. They clearly want people to be sick and on medication. That’s how doctor’s operate. Have you vaped before? I have, and it made me feel 500% better than when I was smoking cigarettes. I don’t care what studies have or have not been done. My biggest point of reference is how I physically felt while vaping, and it was amazing compared to smoking. You’ll never convince me otherwise.
Great comment. Agreed!
I am about to be 39 have smoked since 17. My friend is trying to convince me that American Spirits are a healthy alternative to my chemical half a pack a day previous habit. I live in New England where today it’s 16 DEGREES outside. You realize how ADDICTED you are to tobacco when you’re going outside in a SNOWSTORM to light-up. I’m now down to 2 American Spirits a day and I’m WITHDRAWING. I’ve got headaches, I’m irritable, hungry, and restless, but in the end, it will have been so worth it.
I would never put American Spirits and “healthy alternative” in the same sentence. Yes, they don’t have the 599 chemicals found in brand names, but you can still get a plethora of physical side effects due to the inhalation of smoke. They are “better” tho. But I would never call them “healthy”.
Thank you for your reply. I just beat out all other ADDICTIONS. Alcohol back in October of last year. My problem is always trying to please others and not myself and I think cigarettes filled that void SOMEHOW for me for a long time. Like other addictions I was carrying alot of unresolved crap from my family and past relationships and while it was my choice to pick it up it also is my choice and STRENGTH to put down. Thanks again and I subscribed to your newsletter.
They are not better. American spirits are fire safety compliant, listed above the barcode as “FSC.” This means they employ a fire RETARDANT in the paper. I’m quite certain the type of fire retardant used in spirits is far more dangerous than that used in, say, Parliaments. To say they are “Natural” Or “Organic” is a lie and an injustice.
To say vaping is healthier is a lie also. You are also introducing strange chemicals into your lungs causing irritation over and over again until you end up with pneumonia, bronchitis, COPD or even cancer. If you’re “just vaping”, you’re not immune to these horrible diseases. Quitting is the only way.
Your down to 2 cigs a day..kuddos Man. You are going to live a long full life. Don’t let anyone steer you wrong.
I totally agree with carol. Stopping my previous brand and switching to AS’s was a challenge. It almost felt like quitting because of how much time it took to “detox” from the others. I did physically feel better on the light yellow AS’s. Since I made that step, I am now vaping and on my way to complete stop after 32 years of smoking. I do believe it was easier to now vape because of the step down first to AS’s.
Glad you finally got to the fact that American spirits lack the 599 chemicals. That’s what worries the real smokers and why we want an alternative. I resent the casual just quit smoking comment coming from a non smoker. It’s not that easy and American spirits allow me to step down while I detox from 20 years of chemical cigs.
With respect to the author, yes agreed, the “just quit smoking” comment is very much the modern day prohibitionist nannying. Everyone knows smoking is dangerous, when you say it, it sounds quite patronizing.
Is eating a processed meat sandwich bad for you, yes. Is eating the same sandwich with ammonia and 599 other chemicals added to it worse for you?
Matthew,
You really hit it home with the sandwich comparison! And made me hungry. Thanks for your flawless presentation of logic. Matthew wins this one.
Excellent response!
Sensible and the reason I am checking into American Spirit Cigs.
